Jan 23 The BBC news website reports:
"Fatal attack' at Belgium creche"
"Five people have been killed in a knife attack at a creche in western Belgium, according to
local media."
"Flemish VTM television said three children and two adults have been killed, and other reports
say a further 20 people have been injured."

Comment: I think that the personal safety lesson to be learnt
from this horror is that violence is (as far as the victim is concerned) a completely random event
that can happen anywhere and at any time - you absolutely need to have the skills to maximize YOUR
chances of survival.

"Burglaries and knife robberies up"
"Robberies at knife point have risen by almost a fifth, according to official figures for
England and Wales."

Comment: What is needed is complex, it is probably nothing less
than a change in the values that we teach the young, a justice system that acts to administer
justice and a large dose of common sense to all - and oh yes, a media that doesn't glorify violence
on one hand whilst inflaming public fear on the other... Don't hold your breath waiting for any of
that to happen any time soon.<SIGH>
